  2. The usual composition, applied with a roller and brush,
  3. Composition bred by color scheme - is used to create the necessary shade in the interior,
  4. Composition with the effect of a magnet - a magnetic layer is applied under slate paint, which greatly expands its capabilities in creativity and children's games.

All of them are somewhat different from each other, but the result is almost the same.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • wear resistance and strength,
  • fire resistance
  • water resistant
  • environmental safety
  • lack of smell.

The paint can be used as a repair material, masking small irregularities and surface defects.

The slate material is endowed with a high adhesion rate with wood, drywall and a plastered base. Worst adhesion seen on ceramic surface and metal.

When using a special primer, it can be easily applied to vinyl, aluminum and copper surfaces.

The disadvantages include the high cost of the material, in addition, the composition has its limitations in use. The paint is unstable to low temperatures, which eliminates the possibility of outdoor use.

The pricing policy compares favorably with the European one, since the products are made from domestic raw materials and have lower transportation costs. Moreover, in terms of quality and properties, it is absolutely not inferior to foreign analogues.

Siberia slate paint is endowed with enormous advantages - this is the strength of the coating, and color saturation, as well as significant economical consumption.

Wear resistance allows it to be used for coloring blackboards, large surfaces, and the antiseptic that is part of the paint avoids the appearance of fungus.

The disadvantages of LKM Siberia include the need for more thorough preparation of the base for painting, otherwise in the future there may be some roughness.

Kraft Prime slate paint is endowed with high wear-resistant properties, characterized by ease of application, good adhesion and quick drying. Available in small jars and has two colors - brown and black.

Features of slate paints and differences from a slate board

Cretaceous paints and varnishes can be applied on any surface. They are made on the basis of latex, are water soluble. Magnetic ink can create a high-strength rough coating. It is matte, it is convenient to draw on it. The quality of the coating is better than the surface of blackboards. The presented material has the following qualities:

  • provides a solid layer that is resistant to abrasion,
  • good adhesion
  • it’s not shiny, therefore it’s convenient to draw on the surface,
  • just applied
  • dries quickly
  • does not contain toxic components
  • easy to wash
  • after drying, the layer is resistant to ignition.

Paint is sold in cans and spray cans, which simplifies its application. Ready emulsions have different colors. Paint differs from a slate in that the area of its application is not limited by strict boundaries; it costs less, not bulky.

Paint Selection Criteria

Everyone can use slate paint in the interior. But in order for the design to look beautiful and appropriate, the material for application must be correctly selected. This takes into account not only the color of the substance, but also its volume, the reputation of the manufacturer.

Color variety

Among the slate colors, there are both color and colorless options. The material is used to finish the walls, but its palette is limited. More often in stores you can find paint in black, gray, dark green, brown and blue.

You can still find a transparent base. In this case, you can change the shade using the color scheme. So, get the surface of light green, blue and other colors. This option is universal, as the master can tint it in accordance with the requirements of the interior style.

Can volume

The size of the container and the volume of its contents depends on how large the wall is. If you plan to equip a drawing corner in the children's room, then there is enough banks for 0.312 or 0.35 liters. The same amount of material will be needed in the kitchen. The construction market offers different volumes of paint: 0.312 and 0.35 liters, 0.5 liters and 0.95 liters. You can also find containers of 1 liter and 5 liters.

The cost of a liter

Here it is not the cost of the paint can that is taken into account, but the price of the coverage area. For finishing a domestic manufacturer will have to pay from 990 rubles. Colorless options are cheaper: in the range of 1500-1600 rubles. Black, blue or brown slate paint is sold for 1600 rubles. and more. The most expensive material is in the form of a spray. Its cost is from 2700 rubles.

Stamps

Magneticallystyling paints for decorating surfaces are a relatively new material, so the choice of manufacturers is not very wide. When choosing, you need to focus on the reputation of the manufacturer and his name. The most popular companies are:

  1. Tikkurila. A famous Finnish manufacturer, which is famous for high-quality products. Slate ink is presented in black. You can also purchase a colorless version and the color of the desired shade to it. Tikkurila finish is of high quality, provides a matte surface on which it is convenient to draw. Chalk not only lays well, but is also easily erased. A feature of the brand is that there is the possibility of acquiring white slate paint. Moreover, its shade can also be changed. Such a surface is suitable for a marker surface.
  2. Siberia. This is a slate paint of domestic production, which has high quality, resistance to wear. It contains an antiseptic, so the surface is inert to biological influences (the development of fungus and mold, damage by insects). This quality is especially important for a kitchen corner, as it is often exposed to moisture, steam and temperature changes. The manufacturer's assortment includes black and colorless paint. The volume of material is designed for small surfaces, as well as for significant areas.
  3. Mag paint. Dutch company producing slate paint. Its products are in high demand, as it is of high quality.
  4. Rust-olum. An American manufacturer that specializes in the manufacture of colored and transparent slate materials for decor.
  5. Magnetico. The German company that produces paint only in gray. But the surface after decoration has a high resistance to wear, so it can be washed repeatedly. Products have a relatively low cost. The advantage of the composition is that it dries quickly.

Each manufacturer decides which manufacturer to choose based on their own financial capabilities. But you should not buy cheap options, as they may contain toxic components.

First way

1 stack is required for cooking. acrylic paint, 2 tbsp. Portland cement. The components must be combined and mixed thoroughly so that there are no lumps in the composition. If tinting of the material is required, it is better to choose a colored emulsion. You can choose any shade, although the most popular are green, dark blue and purple options.

Second way

Here for work you need 1 tbsp. water, the same amount of matte varnish on an acrylic basis, 1 tbsp. cement (without slide) and 3 tbsp. acrylic paint in a pre-selected shade. First, cement is placed in the mixing tank, which provides coating strength and surface roughness. Now it needs to be mixed with an emulsion and a color base. All ingredients must be mixed thoroughly so that clots do not form that can ruin the coating. Of these components, 50 ml of the finished composition will be obtained.

Stain preparation

In order for the material to lie well on the surface, it must first be plastered. Next, a primer is applied to the base, which improves the adhesion of the putty to the wall. Now the surface is leveling. After the putty has dried, the base must again be coated with a primer. After this, the wall must be sanded and checked for bumps.

Styling paint

Slate LKM - a novelty among finishing materials. If you paint the wall with a tool in the living room, kitchen, children's room or other room, you can make various notes, sketches on the surface, and then easily wash them with a rag. The people often call the coating chalk - a matte, durable, slightly rough tool.

Slate paintwork was originally created for the restoration of blackboards, but it was quickly noticed by designers and began to be used in interior design. With the help of paint you can radically update the room and make it unusual and stylish.

Such wall paint can perform not only a decorative, but also a practical function, participate in the entertainment and education of children. If magnetic powder is introduced into the material in a special proportion, or, after drying, a magnetic primer is applied, magnets and metal products will adhere well to the surface.

LMB can be applied on bare walls or on wallpaper for painting, without much effort making a place for creativity and play, or styling a room according to the idea.

Features of the tool

Slate-type paintwork is made on the basis of latex - the product is perfectly diluted with water, does not contain solvents harmful to health. What is the secret of unique appearance? The smallest particles of iron are introduced into the composition of the slate magnetic material, which allows the coating to serve as a real magnet after drying. To give a matte texture with the effect of a blackboard, gypsum, cement, modifiers, acrylic resins, marble chips, dolomite are introduced into the paint.

You can cover the walls with either standard gray paint or apply color coatings. Different types of paint are realized: blue, black, brown, green, violet, white paint, which can, for example, be used to paint a refrigerator or be used for tinting. By adding pigments to white coatings, absolutely any shade can be obtained, although dark and bright tones are usually preferred in the interior.

Coloring materials

You can paint almost any surface. Most often you have to do a coating of concrete walls, which are previously applied plaster, putty and primer.

LKM perfectly lays down on such materials:

  • metal,
  • glass,
  • ceramics,
  • drywall
  • wood, fiberboard, particleboard, OSB,
  • Wallpaper, glass.

To create a durable coating, it is better to perform not one, but several layers of paint. If you intend to use the wall as a magnet, layering is a prerequisite, otherwise iron objects will fall. Products that are too heavy on the wall cannot hold.

Types of paint

The product is sold in the form of a spray (aerosol) and in ordinary jars used for painting with a brush or roller. For painting large areas, it is better to purchase a set of ordinary liquid paint and painting accessories. Various inaccessible places, small objects and individual elements in the interior are usually painted from cylinders.

Depending on the properties and composition, slate coatings, in addition to the "classic" type, can be as follows:

  1. Marker paint. It is used to make inscriptions with a marker, not chalk. Designed for people who do not want to wash the walls of chalk dust.
  2. Magnetic or magnetic slate paint. Includes iron supplements, therefore, serves as a magnet.

Advantages and disadvantages of the material

Modern coatings have a minimum of flaws, but their advantages are undeniable. Stylus paints have the following advantages:

  • create a very strong, hard coating, practically not subject to wear, abrasion, mechanical damage,
  • differ in good adhesion (adhesion) to most known surfaces, even with smooth types of glass, ceramics, which increases the area of operation,
  • they do not give shine, which allows you to draw with comfort and easy to erase the inscriptions, wash the coating with water, detergents,
  • do not carry fire danger, do not explode,
  • due to environmental friendliness they can be used in children's rooms, they are odorless,
  • easy to apply, do it soon,
  • some paints include antiseptics, which is why they are used even with high humidity,
  • it can be used to cover a whole wall or highlight individual elements, apply to decorate surfaces with drawings,
  • the material creates a space for children's creativity, such a decor can be located both in the children's room and in other parts of the apartment, even in the corridor,
  • LKM is very functional: in addition to its traditional use as a board, it can replace a kitchen apron, decorate a door, and update boring interior items.

If magnetic particles are added to the paint, the finished surface will muffle electromagnetic radiation from household appliances, electronics. This is a plus and minus at the same time - the harm to humans is reduced, but the quality of the Wi-Fi signal is falling. The disadvantages can be attributed to the fact that the product does not withstand low temperatures, therefore it is suitable only for internal work.

Other possible cons:

  • if you do not regularly wash the surface, stains and spots will make the coating look messy,
  • the slate material may soon get bored, so the repair will have to be redone
  • most often the paint has a dark color, which can make the room gloomy,
  • the material is not suitable for a small room due to the visual reduction of space,
  • slate coating is not suitable for a number of styles, for example, for classics, it will look best in the styles of loft, minimalism,
  • you won’t be able to create the effect of a blackboard on an uneven surface - you will have to very carefully level the base,
  • the coating is so strong that it is possible to erase its drops only before solidification, otherwise it will be difficult to remove defects,
  • the price of the material is very high - some paints cost up to 8000 rubles per liter can.

For allergy sufferers, the constant presence of chalk dust can be harmful, therefore it is better to use marker paints and do not forget about wet care. On glass and aluminum, it will be necessary to first apply a special primer to improve adhesion to the paint.

Surface preparation and painting

To work with paintwork does not require special knowledge, expensive tools. You need to buy a standard set of painter: paint container, roller, brush. Despite careful application, hard-to-remove drops may remain on the floor, so the coating should be covered with cellophane. Window sills, frames, doorways are covered with paper tape.

As a measure of surface preparation, you must carefully align the wall. Separating pieces of putty must be removed, old wallpapers must be removed, although even canvases can be painted on top after preliminary priming. If the wall is old, the ideal option is to completely remove the coating layer, align according to the standard scheme, and only then paint. The last layer is always used high-quality soil (normal, for the corresponding surface).

Painting the wall is pretty simple. It is important that there is no dirt or dust on the base that could settle after priming. It is necessary to mix the paint in a jar, pour into a small container. With a dampened roller or brush, carefully distribute the material on the surface of the wall. After 2 hours, you can apply the second layer, and use the surface (draw) is allowed after 3 days.

If necessary, a day after application, magnetic primer is additionally made with a composition with the addition of iron powder. It is allowed to wash the wall during the first month of operation only with water, and after that it is permissible to use not too aggressive household chemicals.

The use of slate coating in the interior

The scope of the material is very wide. The tool is popular in kindergartens, schools for covering walls in classrooms and corridors (in addition to using ordinary blackboards). Paint with a slate effect is used in cafes, offices (for sticking notes). In apartments, the material is also in demand, especially in the kitchen and in the nursery. Some manufacturers claim that on top of such paint you can even glue wallpaper - the magnetic properties of the wall will be preserved.

Kids room design

When painting the whole wall or part of it with a stylus, the child will receive the perfect coating for creativity and study. The kid will not feel the need to "paint" the wallpaper in the rest of the apartment, and the repair will survive. Older children can use slate coating for homework, studying the multiplication table, formulas, geometry.

Paint for the kitchen and hallway

Usually in the kitchen do not paint the walls as a whole. It will be better to look separately painted interior items, elements and details. For example, you can make a slate kitchen apron, on which then write recipes, magnetize pieces of paper, shopping lists. On some brands of paint it is indicated that the products change color from heating or hot fat, which must be taken into account when carrying out repairs.

In the kitchen you can decorate individual items:

  • the door of the old refrigerator
  • drawers and doors of kitchen cabinets,
  • countertop
  • cups, jars,
  • flowerpots
  • storage box,
  • trays
  • tags for cans
  • boards
  • boxes of seedlings,
  • great dishes.

If you make a slate zone on the wall near the dining table, you can make the meal more interesting, especially when there are children in the house. In the hallway, the area next to the front door is usually painted with a stylus to leave reminders for each other.

Slate surface in cafe

Slate-type paintwork often paint walls or individual stands in catering establishments. It’s convenient to talk about existing promotions or invite visitors.

The highlight of the interior of the cafe will be a whole wall painted with such paint. The topics on it change depending on the season, events, which is convenient for advertising purposes.

Professional Tips

If you just need to touch up the old spoiled layer of paint that is already applied to the wall, then it is better to use the material in the form of a spray. You need to understand that the base with such a finish is dark, so it is not always used for use in small rooms. It is also important to balance the shades.

You should not use such material if you plan to design a room in a classic style. In the children's room, you can equip a place not only for drawing, but also for attaching paper drawings. To do this, use magnetic slate paint.

The specified material is not suitable for every style. However, in this way you can make the interior unusual and more functional. This design is especially suitable if a creative person lives in the house.

Slate coating

In fact, slate paint creates a kind of analogue of a blackboard on the surface. Such paints are most often created on an acrylic basis, which explains its high wear-resistant characteristics.

The composition of slate paints includes:

  • graphite chips, which provides the basis of the coating, being the main component,
  • pigments - creating the desired shade - from black to dark gray,
  • bonding base: most often based on acrylic and other plasticizers.
Such a stylish solution in the interior will bring a touch of positive into everyday life!

Interesting fact! The slate paintwork itself was created as a special compound for the repair of blackboards.

Slate paints can be applied to any plastered surface, including: drywall sheets, brick, glass, as well as metal, wood and stone.

Advice! If you need a surface with a magnet effect, then magnetic powder can be added to slate paint.

Marker paint

Unlike a slate surface, marker paint is intended for marking with a marker. In this case, you get a solid advantage - get rid of chalk dust.

To work with such surfaces, you need to use water-based markers

The surface intended for applying paint can fill both the entire wall and its part. It is very important to ensure a perfectly flat surface.

Advice! Before applying the paint, the surface must be additionally sanded.

Marker coating is made of the following components:

  • epoxy resins - provide good adhesion, extreme strength and abrasion resistance,
  • polyurethane polymers - make the surface glossy, provide elasticity of the coating.

Typically, marker paints are available in two versions: white and transparent.

Sketch Paint is one of the most popular manufacturers of white marker paint

When applying paint, avoid smudges. Most often, before applying paint on the wall, a special zone is determined either with construction tape or ordinary skirting boards.

Use the surface no earlier than 10 days after application

How to make paint with such properties on your own

We have already mentioned that finishing materials of this type have a high price. In fact, to create a slate coating, it is only important to know the components and mix them correctly.

To create a slate coating, you need the following components:

  • acrylic paint - 1 liter,
  • cement - 8 tablespoons.

All components are mixed. The composition is applied using a conventional roller. Such a composition dries longer than usual - 8-10 hours.

Advice! When handling fine dust, use a respirator or goggles. Magnetic powders can adversely affect your health.
